The North Carolina Free Enterprise Foundation publishes Legislative Business Ratings at the conclusion of each session held by the General Assembly. The ratings are based on an objective evaluation of recorded votes and a subjective assessment of every legislator from a survey completed by more than 300 business leaders, trade association executives, and government affairs professionals.
Senator Newton’s rating of 99.3 was the highest among all elected Senate and House members. The full ratings list may be viewed here. In response, Senator Newton issued the following statement:
“I am honored and humbled by the recognition from the NC Free Enterprise Foundation. Since joining the General Assembly in 2017, my top priority has been to build a more prosperous North Carolina through policies that advance growth and create jobs. As we work through the recession caused by the COVID crisis and Governor Cooper’s shutdown, retaining our existing businesses and attracting new ones will be imperative to our State’s recovery.”
The pro-growth policies put in place by Senator Newton and his Republican colleagues have resulted in Forbes ranking NC as the best state for business 3 years in a row. Furthermore, Cabarrus County has seen a flurry of large investments over the past year; including Moore Nanotechnology, Prime Beverage Group, Allegiant Travel Company, Reynolds Group Holdings, General Motors, GoldenHome International, Carvana, and the United States Performance Center.
